QUINTON — The Stratford Bulldogs and the Quinton Savages faced off at Savage Field Friday night.

To use the word efficient might be the understatement of the night. The Bulldogs scored the first three times they touched the ball and used only 15 plays to score seven touchdowns in the opening half.

A 67-yard run for a touchdown began it all. A 15-yard fumble return after a Savage fumble and an 83-yard run on the next possession gave Stratford a 20-0 lead at the 4:13 mark of the first quarter.

The Savages did move from their 20 to the Bulldogs 39 with their third possession. Tyler Ford’s 11-yard catch and Josh Cawyer’s 31-yarder, both from Shane Smith, created some excitement before the drive stalled.

Finally, the Bulldogs had a three-play drive with runs of 3, 18 and a 16-yard touchdown. At the end of the first quarter Stratford led 27-0.

Quinton punted to begin the second quarter and to add insult to injury the visitors scored on a 60-yard punt return to make it 34-0.

The Bulldogs intercepted a pass at their own 30 and three plays later it was 41-0. After a Quinton punt, Stratford used seven plays and scored on a 14-yard run to end the half leading 48-0.

The second half began with the Savage defense stopping the Bulldog offense and forcing a punt.

Starting at their own 13, the Savages faced third and 15 at their own eight. Smith hit Cawyer in full stride and Cawyer outraced the defense for a dramatic 92-yard touchdown. The point after attempt failed but at the 5:15 mark of the third quarter the Savages were on the board.

Quinton’s Josh Spencer recovered a Bulldog fumble at the Quinton 30 to stop the next Stratford drive. Spencer then pulled in a 32-yard reception on the ensuing Quinton drive to get to the Bulldog 37. T.J. Cass’s 12-yard catch had the Savages at the 25 but penalties caused the drive to stall at the Bulldog 20.

Quinton began the fourth quarter at their own 24.

Eric Spearman carried 14-yards on first down. Spencer pulled down a catch seemed on his way to score, but a Bulldog defender knocked the ball out and recovered it at their 21-yardline to stop the Savage threat.

Quinton’s Joey Davidson recovered a Bulldog fumble at the Stratford 26. On third down, Smith found Cass for a 22-yard touchdown pass. Cameron Box’s kick made it 48-13 with five minutes to play.

The Bulldogs went 65 yards in seven plays to make the final score 55-13. Quinton travels to Elmore City Thursday night with kickoff set for 7:30.
