The Red Oak Lady Eagles didn’t lose a step despite the week-long gap between the Class B state quarter-finals and the rest of the tournament. Red Oak followed up its 6-2 quarter-final win against Fort Cobb-Broxton on Oct. 9 by beating Bowlegs 8-1 in the semifinals and Asher 10-3 in the championship Oct. 16.

Canadian

The Cougars lost 47-0 to Keota on Oct. 16, falling to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in district play.

Canadian, now on a five-game losing streak, plays Friday at Porum.

Canadian basketball starts Nov. 20 at home against Kinta.

Crowder

Crowder basketball starts Nov. 4 at Pittsburg.

Haileyville

The Warriors snapped a 30-game losing streak when they beat Arkoma 62-36 on Oct. 16.

Haileyville, its winless season now over, plays Dewar on Friday.

Haileyville basketball starts Nov. 20 at Indianola.

Hartshorne

Blowing out Wilburton 56-14 on Oct. 16 couldn’t help the Hartshorne Miners in the statewide Class 2A polls. Hartshorne remains ranked 10th by The Oklahoman and unranked by the Tulsa World, as it was after Week 6, and dropped from tied for eighth to ninth outright in the latest Associated Press poll.

Hartshorne, 6-1 overall and 4-0 in district play, faces Antlers on Friday.

Hartshorne basketball starts with the Hartshorne Tournament from Dec. 1-6.

Indianola

Indianola basketball starts Nov. 1 at home against Leflore.

Kiowa

Kiowa will have a representative in both the Class 2A girls’ and boys’ state cross country races Saturday in Shawnee. Shay Calvert placed third overall in the Class 2A boys’ regional last Saturday in Henryetta, finishing the 5K course in 18 minutes and 24 seconds.

Addy Clift placed fourth overall in the girls’ regional, finishing the 2-mile course in 13:38.9. The Class 2A girls race is at 12 p.m. on Saturday at State, followed by the boys at 12:45 p.m.

Kiowa basketball starts Nov. 1 at home against Rock Creek.

McAlester

The Buffaloes’ 63-20 win against Noble on Oct. 16 gave it a small bump in the Class 5A rankings. McAlester went from fourth to third in the latest Associated Press poll and from fifth to sixth in the Tulsa World.

The Oklahoman still has the Buffs ranked sixth. McAlester, 6-1 overall and 3-1 in district play, takes on Nathan Hale on Friday in Tulsa.

The game will be played at Tulsa-Memorial’s LaFortune Stadium and is the National Guard Game of the Week.

The Jr. Buffs finished fifth at Saturday’s Junior High All-Star Race — the junior high state championship — in Oklahoma City, scoring 133 team points. Piedmont took forth with 130, but 63 points separated Piedmont and third-place Carl Albert.

Cody Norriss led the Jr. Buffs, placing ninth and finishing in 11:40. Matt Skinner placed 10th in 11:42 and Matthew Hyden placed 27th in 12:37.

Four other Jr. Buffs ran at State but didn’t place. McAlester only took four girls to State, so it couldn’t qualify as a team, but Rebekah Briggs placed 23rd overall in 10:33.

Cross Country Regionals for Class 5A start Oct. 25 at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa. The top seven teams and seven runners from non-qualifying teams advance to State.

McAlester hosted the All-Region 6 cheerleading tryouts Tuesday. Lady Buffs captains Hallie Light and Journey Nunnelee both made All-Region, as did senior Mykaela Donato.

The Lady Buffs trio will try out for All-State on Nov. 4 at Tulsa-Jenks.

Pittsburg

Pittsburg basketball starts Nov. 4 at home against Crowder.

Quinton

The Savages lost 33-6 to Savanna on Oct. 16, falling to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in district play. Quinton plays Talihina on Friday.

Savages cross country runner Brad Davis won last Saturday’s Class 2A regional in Henryetta, finishing in 17:55.1 Davis next races this Saturday at State at 12:45 p.m. in Shawnee.

Quinton cheerleaders Jaycee McKee and Chassity McClary both made the All-Region 6 squad at Tuesday’s tryouts in McAlester. They’ll try out for All-State on Nov. 4 at Tulsa-Jenks.

Quinton basketball starts Dec. 2 at home against Warner.

Red Oak

The Lady Eagles have now won three straight state fastpitch championships. They entered the tournament ranked second in Class B, beat three top-10 teams at State and finished the season 30-10.

Red Oak basketball starts Nov. 1 at home against Wister.

Savanna

The Bulldogs beat Quinton 33-6 on Oct. 16, improving to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in district play. Savanna hosts Porter on Friday.

Savanna basketball starts Nov. 18 at home against Pittsburg.

Stuart

Stuart’s cross country team finished 11th at Saturday’s Class 2A regional in Henryetta. Charles Akins led the Hornets, finishing 58th in 21:49.1 (41st among qualifying teams), followed by Will West finishing 88th in 25:20.5 (65th among qualifying teams).

The Hornets didn’t qualify for State as a team, nor did any qualify as individuals. For the Lady Hornets, Amber Stephens finished 41st in 15:22.8 and Angel Stephens finished 53rd in 16:97.6, but neither made State.

Stuart basketball starts Nov. 1 at home against Calvin.

Wilburton

The Diggers’ losing streak stretched to 20 games when they fell 56-14 to Hartshorne on Oct. 16. Wilburton plays at Panama on Friday.

Wilburton basketball starts Dec. 1 at the Hartshorne Tournament.
