As schools break for Christmas and New Years, here’s how all your local schools finished the 2013 portions of their winter seasons.

The Cougars beat Wister, 61-52, in the third-place game of the Hartshorne Pick & Shovel Classic on Dec. 18. Canadian lost 58-56 to Hartshorne on Dec. 19 but beat Warner 71-34 Friday.

The Cougars head into 2014 with a 7-2 record.

The Lady Cougars lost 52-31 to Wister in the consolation final of the Pick & Shovel Classic on Dec. 18, lost 56-26 to Hartshorne on Dec. 19 and lost 50-24 to Warner on Friday.

The Lady Cougars are 1-9 this season. Canadian next plays at Haileyville on Jan. 6.


The Demons lost at Hartshorne on Dec. 17, 72-54, then lost to Wilburton in the Pick & Shovel Classic consolation semifinals Dec. 18, 73-39.

The Demonettes also lost to Hartshorne on Dec. 17, 61-38.

Crowder next plays Jan. 7 at Quinton. The Demons are 3-7, the Demonettes 2-9.


Having lost 45-27 to Red Oak in the Eastern Oklahoma State College Invitational semifinals on Dec. 4, Haileyville resumed the tournament with Friday’s third-place game. The Warriors lost to Whitesboro, 65-48.

Having lost 63-44 to Pittsburg in the consolation semifinals Dec. 4, the Lady Warriors haven’t played since their 68-31 loss at Savanna on Dec. 16.

Haileyville next plays Saturday in the Panama Holiday Festival. The Lady Warriors play Acorn, Ark., at 2 p.m., and the Warriors play Acorn at 3:30 p.m.

The Lady Warriors also play Panama on Monday at 7 p.m., followed by the Warriors playing Panama at 8:30 p.m.


The Miners enter the new year on a four-game winning streak. Hartshorne beat Crowder 72-54 on Dec. 17, Oktaha 68-49 in the Pick & Shovel consolation semifinals Dec. 18, Canadian 58-56 on Dec. 19 and Wilburton 53-45 in Friday’s Pick & Shovel consolation finals.

The Lady Miners beat Crowder, 61-38, lost 73-52 to Oktaha in the Pick & Shovel semifinals, beat Canadian 56-26 and then lost Friday’s third-place game to Antlers, 37-33.

Hartshorne next plays Heavener on Jan. 7. The Miners are 4-1, the Lady Miners 2-3.


The Warriors lost 56-37 to Savanna on Dec. 17, and the Warriorettes lost 57-20. Indianola, whose two teams have one win between them, next plays Kiowa on Jan. 7.


The Cowboys beat Rattan 50-33 on Dec. 17, and the Cowgirls beat Rattan 66-57.

Kiowa next plays at Indianola on Jan. 7. The 7-3 Cowboys rank 11th in Class A, and the 7-3 Cowgirls rank fourth.


The Buffaloes lost both their basketball games last week, falling 90-87 in overtime to Tahlequah Sequoyah on Dec. 17 and 74-68 to Ardmore on Friday. The Lady Buffs lost 76-54 to Tahlequah Sequoyah and 59-41 to Ardmore.

McAlester next plays Idabel on Jan. 4. The Buffs are 3-3, the Lady Buffs 1-5.

McAlester also hosted three wrestling dual-meets last week. The Buffs lost 51-19 to Pryor on Dec. 17, beat Poteau 37-16 on Dec. 19 but lost 48-24 to Fort Gibson, also on Dec. 19.

McAlester next wrestles at home against Durant on Jan. 9.


Having beaten Smithville 59-53 in the EOSC Invitational consolation semifinals Dec. 4, the Panthers ended their tournament by losing 55-77 to McCurtain in the consolation finals on Friday. The Lady Panthers beat McCurtain 63-51 to win the Blue Girls consolation bracket.

Pittsburg next plays Bennington on Jan. 7. The Panthers are 2-9, the Lady Panthers 7-4.


The Savages lost 67-45 to Pocola on Dec. 19, but the Lady Savages beat Pocola 56-37.

Quinton next plays Jan. 7 against Crowder. The Savages are 3-3, the Lady Savages 3-0.


Savanna swept its only game last week, with the Bulldogs beating Indianola 56-37 and the Lady Bulldogs beating Indianola 57-20.

The Bulldogs are currently 2-2, the Lady Bulldogs 3-1. Savanna next plays at the Henryetta Tournament starting Jan. 6.


Forfeiting their final games of the EOSC Invitational, Stuart hasn’t played since Dec. 13. Stuart next plays at Canadian on Jan. 7.

The Hornets head into 2014 ranked fifth in Class A with an 8-1 record. The Lady Hornets rank 17th with a 7-2 record.


The Diggers split last week’s game, starting with a 50-37 loss to Pocola on Dec. 17. Wilburton beat Crowder in the Pick & Shovel consolation semifinals on Dec. 18, 73-39, then beat Antlers 43-32 on Dec. 19.

Wilburton finished the week with a 53-45 loss to Hartshorne in the Pick & Shovel consolation finals, ending 2013 with a 4-5 record.

The Lady Diggers beat Pocola 50-35, lost 45-40 to Antlers, then lost 50-47 to Oktaha in the Pick & Shovel championship on Friday. The Lady Diggers are now 5-4.

Wilburton next plays in the Henryetta Tournament starting Jan. 6.
