The McAlester Buffaloes will go for the gold ball Friday when they face the Guthrie Bluejays in the 5A State Championship. Find out more about that game, plus all the others this week below.

Canadian:

Canadian beat Crowder, 79-61, in the first round of the Pick & Shovel Classic basketball tournament Monday in Hartshorne. The Cougars play Tushka in the boys’ semifinal Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Cougars lost to Hartshorne in the first round, 67-41, on Monday. Canadian plays either Oktaha or Crowder, which played each other Tuesday, in the girls’ consolation semifinal today at 4:30 p.m.

Canadian hosts the Darrell James Shootout basketball tournament starting Monday.

Crowder:

The Demons lost to Canadian in the first round of the Pick & Shovel Classic basketball tournament in Hartshorne, 79-61. Crowder plays Wilburton in the boys’ consolation semifinal Friday at 5:50 p.m.

The Demonettes played Oktaha in the first round of the tournament Tuesday afternoon. The winner plays Hartshorne in the semifinals Thursday at 6 p.m., while the loser plays Canadian today at 4:30 p.m.

Haileyville:

The Warriors beat Smithville in the first round of the Eastern Oklahoma State College High School Invitational Tournament on Monday, 62-53. The Warriors next play Red Oak in the Blue Boys Bracket tonight at 8:30 p.m. at Wilburton High School.

The Lady Warriors lost their first-round game of the EOSC Tournament, 64-18, to Arkoma on Monday. Haileyville plays Pittsburg in the Blue Girls Bracket consolation semifinals today at 4:30 p.m. at EOSC in Wilburton.

Hartshorne:

The Harthsorne Miners will play Millwood in the Class 2A semifinals Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at East Central University in Ada. If Hartshorne can beat the Falcons, a 13-0 team that won District 2A-2, the Miners would play either Vian or Davis in the State Championship next week at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

Vian and Davis play Saturday at Hook Eales Stadium in McAlester at 7:30 p.m.

The Miners have never won a state title in football. They last played for the gold ball in 1979.

Hartshorne’s boys’ basketball team played Antlers in the first round of the Pick & Shovel Classic tournament Tuesday evening Hartshorne. The winner faces the winner of Oktaha-Wister, a game also played Tuesday, in the semifinals Wednesday, while the losers of those two games face off Thursday.

The Lady Miners beat Canadian in the first round Monday, 67-41. Hartshorne will play either Oktaha or Crowder, who played each other Tuesday afternoon, in the girls’ semifinal Thursday.

Indianola:

Indianola played Okay on Tuesday. The Warriors went into the game 1-6, the Warriorettes 0-7.

Kiowa:

Kiowa’s basketball season continues Saturday at Rock Creek. The Cowboys and Cowgirls both head into the game with 4-2 records, the Cowgirls ranked third and the Cowboys ninth in Class A.

McAlester:

The McAlester Buffaloes will face Guthrie in the state championship Friday at 7 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. It’ll be McAlester’s first championship game since 1996.

McAlester last won a title in 1988. To win it again, the Buffs will have to beat a Guthrie team that went undefeated this season, won its district, held the top ranking in 5A all season and allowed the fewest points of any team in its class.

McAlester’s basketball season began Tuesday at home against Hugo. McAlester plays at Muldrow next Tuesday.

McAlester’s wrestling team competed in the Oklahoma Open on Saturday, getting a second-place finish from Hunter Smith and a third-place finish from Donald Cannon. JC Cook, Jeremy Thomas and Kole Rollins all made the semifinals.

The Buffs competed in their first dual meet Tuesday at Shawnee. They’ll face Fort Gibson in a home dual meet Thursday at Bob Brumley Gymnasium, an event that will be free to the public.

Pittsburg:

Red Oak beat Pittsburg in the first round of the Eastern Oklahoma State College High School Invitational Tournament, 71-32 on Monday. The Panthers next play Smithville tonight at 8:30 p.m. at EOSC.

The Lady Panthers lost to Whitesboro in the first round of the EOSC tournament. Pittsburg plays Haileyville in the Blue Girls Bracket consolation semifinals today at 4:30 p.m. at EOSC.

Quinton:

Quinton basketball began its season Tuesday at Warner. The Savages next play Coalgate in the first round of the Southeast Shootout on Thursday at the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester, and the Lady Savages play Konawa in the same tournament.

Savanna:

Savanna’s basketball season started Tuesday at Henryetta. Savanna next plays in the Southeast Shootout starting Thursday at the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester.

Stuart:

Stuart’s basketball season continued Tuesday in the first round of the Eastern Oklahoma State College High School Invitational Tournament. The Hornets, ranked fifth in Class A with a 6-1 record, played Clayton, and the Lady Hornets, ranked 19th with a 5-2 record, played Leflore.

In the Gold Boys Bracket, the winner of Stuart-Clayton plays the winner of Leflore-Gans on Thursday at EOSC at 8:30 p.m. The losers play Thursday at EOSC at 5:50 p.m.

In the Gold Girls Bracket, the winner of Stuart-Leflore plays the winner of Howe-Cave Springs on Thursday at EOSC at 7:10 p.m. The losers play Thursday at EOSC at 4:30 p.m.

Wilburton:

Wilburton played Tushka in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions of the Pick & Shovel Classic basketball Tournament in Hartshorne on Monday. The Diggers lost, 53-33, but the Lady Diggers won, 36-35.

The Diggers will face Crowder in the boys’ consolation semifinal Friday at 5:50 p.m. The Lady Diggers will face either Wister or Antlers, which faced each other Tuesday evening, in the girls’ semifinals Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
