EUFAULA — There is no continuous rivalry in the state of Oklahoma that has been played as long as the Eufaula-Checotah rivalry. Before Friday night, the two schools had squared off 87 times on the gridiron.

Eufaula had won 43, Checotah had won 43 and there was one tie.

Friday night at Ironhead Stadium the Ironheads took control of the series, if only slightly, by easily defeating the visiting Wildcats 41-0.

Checotah received the opening kickoff and with one long pass play, moved the ball into Eufaula territory.

On third-and-11, Eufaula’s Travis Burkhalter recorded the ?rst of his two interceptions of the game.

With a near-capacity crowd looking on, Burkhalter drove the Ironheads down ?eld for their ?rst score of the game. The 64-yard, 10-play drive ended with a 7-yard touchdown run by sophomore Ashton Bowie. With 4:09 remaining in the ?rst quarter, the Ironheads led 7-0.

The next drive for the Ironheads went 11 plays and ended with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Burkhalter to Dustin Blackman. Adam Sanders PAT put Eufaula on top 14-0 with less than two minutes gone in the second quarter.

Eufaula’s special teams got the ball back with good ?eld position on the next Checotah drive when the Ironheads blocked a punt. Starting from the Checotah 36-yardline, the Ironheads drove the ball to the 1 and scored on a quarterback keeper by Burkhalter. The PAT by Sanders put the Ironheads up 21-0, the score they would take into halftime.

Trevor Walsh scored midway through the third quarter for the Ironheads. Ashton Bowie got into the end zone for the second time in the game, early in the fourth quarter and the Ironheads added yet another score in the fourth to ?nish off the 41-0 shutout.

Eufaula, still unbeaten in District 3A-4 play, is scheduled to travel to Hugo Friday before returning home in two weeks to face fellow unbeaten Morris.
