Hartshorne’s offensive line stepped up to the challenge as the Miners beat a very game Coalgate Wildcat team Friday evening at Butler-Jennings Stadium in Hartshorne.

The Miners move to 3-0 on the season with the win.

“It was a hard fought ball game, Coalgate has a really good football team,” said Hartshorne head coach Mike Reddick. “Coalgate may not be winning games but the are a pretty good 0-3 football team.”

The Miners played solid on defense, holding the Wildcats to 255 total yards.

The Miners were behind 18-14 in the fourth quarter, when the Hartshorne offense marched the length of the field scoring on a 8-yard pass from Ricky Morgan to Daniel Ranallo.

The extra point was good and the Miners lead 21-18 with 4:55 left in the game.

Tailback Blake Ardese was out early in the game and the Hartshorne offense was limited to one tailback.

“We knew the passing game was going to come in to effect early and that concerned us,” Reddick said. “We had 159 passing yards. The offense did an outstanding job, scoring twice on passes.”

Morgan was 15-26 on the night.

“I want to give a lot of credit to our offensive line. Shay Boatright, Adam Few, Joe Barnhill, Chance Chambers and Daniel Standefur they did an outstanding job,” Reddick added. “ They are getting better each week. They have not allowed a sack in the last two games.”

Ben Blankenship did a great job on defense for the Miners hauling in two interceptions.

Nash McMurtrey got Hartshorne on the board at 6:15 in the second quarter with 23-yard run. Bryson Hall’s extra point kick was good giving the Miners the 7-6 lead.

Stephen Rowell caught a 10-yard Morgan pass at 1:03 in the second, giving the Miners their second score. Hall was good on the extra point and the Miners were ahead 14-6 to end the half.

Coalgate would score two answered, giving them the lead late in the fourth quarter.

“It was a great game from our fan’s perspective, but it was horrifying for a coach, Reddick said. “I am proud of our kid’s for finding a way to come back and win this game. We are getting better every week.

“The coaches and kids are working hard. We have had great fan support and I appreciate the fan’s that are coming out. We had a full stadium last night. That was a factor in the game too.”
