“NAATU NAATU” WINS BEST ORIGINAL SONG OSCAR

LOS ANGELES (AP) - One of the writers of the song “Naatu Naatu” from the Indian film “RRR” confessed he was a big Carpenters fan growing up. M.M. Keeravaani then sang a version of “Top of the World” to reflect his win at the Oscars for best original song with lyricist Chandrabose. “Naatu Naatu” was a high-energy performance from “RRR” that was duplicated for last night's show. ASAP Rocky saluted Rihanna with a toast after her performance of “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Sofia Carson and Diane Warren performed “Applause” from “Tell It Like A Woman.” Lady Gaga performed “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick” with little makeup, torn jeans and T-shirt — but she had walked the arrivals line with full makeup and in a designer gown. David Byrne, while performing “This is the Life” from “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” sported the hot dog fingers from the movie.

XXXTENTACION JURY DELIBERATIONS CONTINUE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – There’s still no verdict in the trial of three men accused of killing XXXTentacion (ex-ex-ex-ten-tah-see-OHN’) outside Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2018. Jurors will continue their deliberations today. Michael Boatwright, Dedrick Williams and Trayvon Newsome each are charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. They all face mandatory life sentences if convicted. XXXTentacion had left a motorcycle shop with a friend in 2018 when he was shot repeatedly and robbed of a bag containing $50,000 that he had just withdrawn from a bank.

MORGAN WALLEN IS NUMBER ONE WITH “ONE THING AT A TIME”

LOS ANGELES (AP) - “One Thing At A Time” by Morgan Wallen debuts at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart. It moved 501,000 units. SZA (SIH'-zah) is second with “SOS.” “Mañana Será Bonito” by Karol G falls from first to third. Kali Uchis is number four with “Red Moon in Venus.” Taylor Swift's “Midnights” is number five.

DADDY YANKEE IS WBC AMBASSADOR

MIAMI (AP) – Daddy Yankee has been named the global ambassador for the World Baseball Classic, which features the best baseball players in the world competing for their native countries and territories. Daddy Yankee’s song “Chispa” is the WBC anthem, which is being used in the tournament’s coverage. Daddy Yankee threw out the first pitch at yesterday’s game between Venezuela and Puerto Rico.

NBC WILL START PEOPLE'S CHOICE COUNTRY AWARDS

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The People’s Choice Awards are doing an all-country music version. The People’s Choice Country Awards will air from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville in September on NBC. Awards will be given based on popular vote, and several honorary awards will be given.

ALLEN, GUYTON, PECK JUDGE “MY KIND OF COUNTRY”

NEW YORK (AP) – Jimmie Allen, Mickey Guyton and Orville Peck will judge a competition series that looks beyond the typical singer in Nashville for the next country star. The eight-part series “My Kind of Country” will feature musicians performing country music not just from the United States, but from India, Mexico and South Africa. Kacey Musgraves and Reese Witherspoon are the show’s executive producers. “My Kind of Country” will stream on Apple TV Plus starting March 24.
