I would like to take this opportunity to thank several agencies for their help and participation during our recent bout with fires here in Pittsburg County. First and foremost, thanks to all of the fire departments in Pittsburg County, whether paid or volunteer, including the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant Fire Department.

These folks have worked tirelessly, sometimes around the clock, to protect lives, homes and property here in our county.

I would also like to thank the Bureau of Indian Affairs fire teams, the Oklahoma Department of Forestry, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, AirEvac Lifeteam, Southwest and Para Med ambulance services, the Choctaw Nation, McDonalds, Taco Pronto, Allen’s Market, and Charlie’s Chicken.

We must also include thanks to the Pittsburg County commissioners, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Department and numerous others that volunteered their time and services during these fires.

The firefighters and forestry personnel were the ones on the front lines of the fires, but without the support of all of the other agencies, the overwhelming success attained would not have been possible.

It has been truly humbling to see all these agencies and businesses come together and work as one.

Many took time away from their paying jobs to save lives, homes and property, while putting their own personal safety at risk.

Many agencies traveled great distances and volunteered their equipment and expertise. Some agencies sent men and women across the county and some across the nation to help with these fires.

We are one of the few counties that has not yet lost a home due to the grass fires plaguing our state.

That in itself says a lot for the hard work and dedication of all of these folks. The fire danger is still high and an ongoing problem.

When needed, I know that once again these people will respond with the same aggressiveness and hard work as we have already witnessed.

Thank you again and keep up the great work.
