I am outraged by the recent news from California that  a group is about to sue McDonald’s for putting toys in their Happy Meals, saying that McDonald’s is promoting child obesity.

In the article from June 23, 2010 on www.latimes.com it says The Center for Science in the Public Interest said that the plastic promotions (toys) lure children into McDonald’s restaurants where they are likely to order food that is too high in calories, fat and salt.

Don’t get me wrong; I am not supporting McDonald’s in any way. I am however, appalled at the American people who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. While McDonald’s may try luring children with a toy, it ultimately is the parent’s fault for driving their kids to get fast food and then purchasing unhealthy food that contributes to childhood obesity. It would not be any different than suing a grocery store for selling cookies, chips and candy that make our children obese, as well as adults.

The problem with Americans is that we have become a lazy society who would rather go get fast food than to go home and prepare a healthy meal for our family. We don’t educate our kids on healthy food and most of us don’t even teach our kids to eat fruits and vegetables at an early enough age to carry them into a healthy adulthood.

When are we going to stop blaming everyone else for our lack of healthy choices and take responsibility for our children’s obesity as well as our own?
