Sure sign that fall is here – even though the temperatures don’t show it – is the fact this past weekend was “Free Fair” time both in Latimer and Pittsburg counties.

It never fails to amaze me the number of people both young and old that participate and attend these fairs. Tulsa and Oklahoma City may have their “State Fairs,” but I just don’t believe the level of involvement can equal what we have in rural Oklahoma. In the political world, we can never lose sight of the fact that many of our leaders do not see money spent on Extension Services as money well spent. I disagree. I view this money as an investment in our future.

I also wish to congratulate Haileyville FFA for being named in the National Chapter Award Program. The program will be recognized for this in Indianapolis at the National FFA Convention later this fall. Once again, our rural schools can compete with the best.

I also wish to thank the Pittsburg County Bar Association for inviting me and several other legislators to their monthly meeting in McAlester. I find it refreshing that prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges can sit down together and enjoy a meal then discuss anything they desire. This brings together people involved in most aspects of our criminal justice system. It was good to hear Sen. Roger Thompson and Rep. Chris Kannady share their perspectives of the upcoming legislative session.

Once again, thank you for allowing me to serve. Never hesitate to reach out to me. I can be reached at Jim.Grego@okhouse.gov or (405) 557-7381.
