A husband and wife from McAlester were killed Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle as they were crossing U.S. Highway 270 according to police.

Police released the identities of two people who were fatally struck Tuesday by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 270.

The Krebs Police Department identified the two as Dorothy and Davis Jim of McAlester.

According to KPD, Dorothy Jim was pronounced dead at the scene and her husband, Davis Jim, later died at a Tulsa area hospital after being flown by medical helicopter with severe injuries.

The driver and her minor child were not injured in the collision and cooperated with the investigation, according to a police report obtained by the News-Capital.

KPD Officer Mike House told the News-Capital Tuesday that the two were having their vehicle worked on and were crossing the highway to get to the Dollar General when they were struck by the vehicle.

In the report prepared by House, the officer wrote he was working radar on U.S. Highway 270 at the time he received the call from dispatch about the collision.

He wrote in his report that he would have met the vehicle involved in the collision and wrote there were no westbound vehicles speeding in the minutes before the collision.

Firefighters from the McAlester and Krebs Fire Departments used their trucks along with a tarp attached to the trucks to block the scene from bystanders and motorists as the investigation was conducted.

KPD Chief Dennis Cook said the report will be forwarded to the District 18 District Attorney’s Office for further review.
