Rodeo

Krystal Bess, CEO of the McAlester Area Chamber Commerce, details the fifth year of the Big V Feeds Hi Lo ProRodeo presented by Sam Wampler’s Freedom Ford, for which tickets go on sale Jan. 17.

1 What’s new this year?

This year we’re having the Bo Posey Band perform so we’ll have a fiddle player on that Saturday night, which I think will be super fun. Also we will have Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey. He’s never been to the Southern states, just the eastern states, so he’s coming down.

2 What was the inspiration behind bringing in Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey?

Friday night is always Family Night so we wanted to bring him in and I think kids will really like him. He herds sheep or cattle or anything like that while riding a dog, plus he’s real funny.

3 What are some of the events?

The two-night event produced by Hi Lo ProRodeo and the McAlester Area Chamber of Commerce is a full Profesional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo and will feature Whiplash the Cowboys Monkey and bullfighting Saturday night.

4 What else happens on Saturday night?

People can come out for the old-fashioned dance and an after-party after freestyle bullfights. Bo Posey is a member of the Sacramento Western Swing Society and the Oklahoma State Fiddlers Association;he has also been named Male Entertainer of the Year at the McSwain Theatre Grand Awards Show.

5 Where are tickets available?

Tickets will be available at Cavendar’s Western Wear in McAlester and get your tickets early to get a $2 discount. Tickets will still available at the door and the box office will open at 3 p.m. on the day of the event.
