A local man was killed overnight after his truck was overtaken by flash flood waters along the Pittsburg County/Atoka County line.
Pittsburg County Sheriff Chris Morris identified the man as 58-year-old Floyd Randall Hyatt from the Harper Valley area.
“We received a call at about two this morning from a woman who said her son left to go to Walmart yesterday evening around eight and hadn’t made it home,” Morris said.
The sheriff said deputies drove around the southern county line until 5 a.m. and didn’t locate anything before calling in assistance from the Atoka County Sheriff’s Department.
After a truck was spotted by Atoka County deputies in the water, the Pittsburg County Swift Water Rescue Team was called out to assist.
“There was a window down in the truck with nobody in the truck,” Morris said. “A body was found approximately 200 yards downstream from the truck deceased.”
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol will continue with the investigation, Morris said.
