MPS starts enrollment on Monday with a new process to submit — and keep on file — required documents in an online element called E-Collect.

An approaching school year brings a new way to enroll at McAlester Public Schools.

MPS starts enrollment on Monday with a new process to submit — and keep on file — required documents in an online element called E-Collect.

“With technology the way that it is, we just knew that there was a way to make it easier for parents to get all the information that we need and to make sure that we get all the forms that we have to get,” said MPS Superintendent Randy Hughes.

McAlester Public Schools uses an online student information system called PowerSchool that provides a tool for students, parents and teachers to track and communicate student performance.

Parents can go to the school’s website and log-in to PowerSchool using a username and password distributed each year. Then they can view the student profile and click on E-Collect to submit required forms via a secure site.

Julie Cook, the MPS SIS manager, said the paperless process is eco-friendly and is another technological advance after the school introduced safe school identification last year.

She worked over the summer to prepare the E-Collect system, which is multi-lingual with Vietnamese and Spanish as non-English options for documents.

Parents of pre-K students, kindergartners and transfer students can start a PowerSchool account during enrollment.

However, parents will need to go to their student’s school site to complete the enrollment process to physically sign some documents.

“Basically if your child takes prescription medications that you have to sign and the doctor also has to sign the authorization form,” said MPS Executive Assistant Lori Few. She added there are forms for federal programs requirements, parent-teacher compacts and other documents requiring a physical signature to complete the process.

Each enrollment site will also have technology available to start the process online.
