More help is needed for this year’s Community Christmas Dinner.
The dinner is open to everyone in the McAlester and Krebs city limits, with full holiday meals and the trimmings delivered to anyone who wants to participate.
However, volunteers who put together the meal depend entirely on contributions to make the dinner possible — and so far, donations are down.
One of the organizers of this year’s event said fewer donations have come in than expected. That leaves far less money available for the project than is needed at this point. Most of the money that has been donated came from a single civic club.
“Hopefully, people will open their pocketbooks and contribute,” said a volunteer working on the project. He, along with the others, have once again asked to remain anonymous.
Anyone wishing to help by making a donation can send it to McAlester Community Christmas; 216 E. Choctaw Ave.; McAlester, OK; 74501.
Plans call for this year’s Community Christmas Dinner to be delivered to any McAlester and Krebs residents who sign up in advance. No age or income guidelines are in place. Anyone living within the McAlester and Krebs city limits can make a reservation to participate by phoning 918-421-2920. Phone calls from those wanting to make reservations will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.
All of the dinners will be delivered on Christmas Day, which is Tuesday, Dec. 25, with no dinners available for pickup and no sit-down dinner planned from a central location.
More help is needed to help with the McAlester and Krebs deliveries along with other tasks on Christmas Day. Anyone who wants to volunteer to help can also phone the 918-421-2920 phone number.
