A McAlester woman admitted to starting a fire that damaged a local residence in June.

Brandy Leigh Chapman, 38, admitted to investigators during an interview Aug. 1 at the Pittsburg County Jail that she used gasoline to start the fire at the residence in the 1500 block of South Fifth Street in McAlester, according to court documents.

McAlester Fire Marshal Bobby Tucker wrote in a probable cause affidavit that Chapman said she poured gasoline on a pile of clothes in a bedroom before entering a utility room and starting a fire inside the doorway.

"What Chapman tells us about these two fires is accurate with what was found at the house," wrote Tucker.
