Tickets available for $10,000 giveaway

Tickets are available for the McAlester area annual $10,000 giveaway.

The drawing for this year’s McAlester Area $10,000 Cash Giveaway is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 in downtown McAlester at the corner of First Street and Choctaw Avenue — but Event Coordinator and Committee member Jeanie McCabe said she again anticipates more prizes.

“We’ve always given away more than $10,000 and then extra prizes,” McCabe said.

Past prizes in addition to the $10,000 grand prize drawing included gift cards, mattress sets, diamonds, and more depending on ticket sales.

The event is in its 24th year as local business owners join together to promote shopping local and give away money to local shoppers.

“It’s a fun event that promotes shopping local and keeps people here,” McCabe said.

Tickets for the drawing are available at participating businesses with one ticket per store visit, plus an additional ticket for each $10 spent at the store — but McCabe said some businesses tend to be more generous.

Businesses have tickets available now and leading up to the day of the drawing.

McCabe said the earliest businesses can bring in tickets is 3 p.m. the day of the drawing, but some businesses usually continue taking tickets until closings that day.

“If a business doesn’t close until 6 p.m., as long as they have their tickets there by 7 p.m. at the time that we start that drawing, we’re perfectly fine,” McCabe said.

Winning ticket holders will have five minutes from the time their ticket is called to reach the bandstand to verify the ticket number before another is drawn.

Participants must be at least 18 years old to enter and must attend the event with valid identification to win.

Sherry DeFrange, was last year’s grand prize winner.

Radio stations KNED AM and K101 FM will broadcast the winning ticket numbers, while McAlester Radio’s Megan Waters will emcee the event with McCabe over sound equipment at the bandstand.

McCabe said Miss McAlester and Miss Teen McAlester will draw the tickets at the event. Marra Juarez was named 2019 Miss McAlester and Emilee Coxsey was named the 2019 Miss McAlester’s Outstanding Teen.
