Thomas P. Burrows, 79, of McAlester, died Monday, May 9, 2011, at McAlester Regional Health Center.
Private funeral services will be held by the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born April 4, 1932, near Centerpoint in Atoka County, to Terrance and Vinnie (James) Burrows, he grew up in the Atoka area and had lived in McAlester since 1958. He married Betty Wright in 1954, in Atoka, and she preceded him in death in 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
As a youngster, he worked in the family-owned sawmills until he moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and worked at Swifts Packing Co. After he moved to McAlester in 1958, he worked at Holsom Bakery then at Sims-Moore Lumber Co. He later worked in bridge construction for Muskogee Bridge Co. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Debbie Burrows, of McAlester, Johnnie and Gaye Burrows, of McAlester; two daughters and one son-in-law, Bonnie Burrows, of McAlester, Sherrie and Dale Handley, of McAlester.
Also, seven grandchildren, Ryan Burrows and wife, Alice, of New Mexico, Brett Burrows, of McAlester, Jacalyn Burrows, of Norman, Jonathan Pedigo, of Shawnee, Rachelle Pedigo, of Ada, Fordie Glenn, of Bugtussle, Rebecca Smith and husband, Rhys, of McAlester.
And, six great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Viola Burrows, of California, and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the McAlester High School SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) at McAlester High School, 1 Buffalo Drive, McAlester, OK, 74501.
