Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3085 Poppy Drive Chairman Justin Flowers talks about plans for the Post and Auxiliary on Veterans Day.

1 What is VFW Post 3085 and Auxiliary doing on Veterans Day?

We are holding a Buddy Poppy Drive outside Lowe's in McAlester on Monday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day. We will be at Lowe's from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

2 Where will proceeds from the Poppy Drive go?

Money will go to the VFW National Home for Children.

3 Will any other activities be ongoing at the same time as the Poppy Drive?

We will also be holding a membership drive for VFW Post 3085 and Auxiliary.

4 Do you have to be a veteran or live in the Hartshorne or Haileyville area to join either Post 3085 or its Auxiliary?

No. You don't have to live in Hartshorne or Haileyville. We have members from all over the country. You can be a veteran or be related to a veteran, as long as they served in a foreign war or military combat overseas. They can be living or deceased.

5. Does Post 3085 and the Auxiliary have any more upcoming activities planned?

We've held two different writing contests, for elementary and junior high and high school. Our annual Christmas Toy Drive is beginning with collection boxes all over Hartshorne. We have them at Dollar General Store, Family Dollar, Tommy's Treasures and The Old Corral. We'll have one in the Twins Cafe in Haileyville.
