McAlester Public Schools Board of Education recently approved adding an hour to the school day at Puterbaugh Middle School. Puterbaugh Principal Caroline Miller explained the changes to the schedule:

1. How will the school schedule change?

Puterbaugh will extend our school day to 4 p.m. to accommodate for time missed.

2. When will the changes take place?

Puterbaugh's school day will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from March 25 to April 9.

3. How does that break down for each class?

We will be adding minutes on to each class period, roughly a little more than 8 min per.

4. Why was the additional time needed?

We had over 180 students absent on Feb. 4 and 246 on Feb. 5. Our student population is 406.

5. How do the changes impact the bus schedule and after-school activities?

Buses will continue to run at 4 p.m. and all after-school activities and games will resume as normal. Coaches will communicate with their players how practice time will be affected. We will not have HERD or Indian Ed tutoring March 25-April 9.
