McAlester residents now have more options when making payments for municipal utilities.
Through a contract with U.S. Payments, LLC, payment kiosks at two local businesses will accept cash, check, or cards to post funds to accounts. Locations include Pruett’s Food at 601 E. Wyandotte Avenue and the Choctaw Nation Travel Plaza at 1640 S. George Nigh Expressway.
The new payment service is targeted to water and trash utility customers with the City of McAlester. A copy of the most recent water bill is required for payments. Account information such as payment history, amount due, or account status cannot be referenced through the kiosk. The kiosks do not make or accept coins, so cash payments must be made in whole dollar amounts and overpayments will be credited toward future charges.
Chief Accountant Kara Coy hopes the kiosks provide more convenience to residents. “People won’t have to make special trips or be limited to the hours of operation at City Hall anymore. They’ll be able to pay at some of the places they are already visiting,” she said. The Utility Billing Office will remain open Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm for customers wishing to visit in-person. The city also accepts card payments through their website at www.cityofmcalester.com.
There is no additional fee passed on to customers using this option and payments can be made anytime the stores are open for business. Several other utility and financial services in McAlester also utilize the kiosks, making paying bills easier for many people.
