Local students had a strong performance at a state competition.

McAlester High School’s One Act Play cast finished second at the OSSAA Class 5A state competition Oct. 25 at the Freeland Center for the Performing Arts in Bristow with two locals being named to the All-Star Cast.

Ardmore was named the state champion, followed by McAlester in second and Guymon in third.

Judges also named McAlester’s Isaac Palmer and Christian Paul to the All-Star Cast, which included 10 total cast members.

McAlester qualified for state earlier in the month after it finished second overall at the regional with honors as the Outstanding Stage Crew/Tech Champions.

Seniors Cellestte Bowden, Isaac Palmer, Christian Paul, Ryleigh Pedigo and freshman Anna Coleman were named to the Regional All Star Cast.

The MHS cast performed "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” — which is adapted from a novel depicting a 15-year-old boy who investigates the killing of a neighborhood dog and learns several life lessons.

Green thanked Assistant Director Michael Jones and lighting assistant Jason Strickland for their help, in addition to the McAlester Scottish Rite Masons for hosting several practices throughout the year.
