Scroggins now has a chance to win a new car courtesy of Patriot Auto Group as part of a partnership event with the McAlester News-Capital.
Where do you want to go to college and why?
I want to go to OKCU or SAIC. SAIC because it's a renowned art school that created many successful artists. OKCU because the staff and students are very welcoming and even take the time to remember me by name.
What is your list of accomplishments including scholarships received?
I received a $50,000, four-year fine art scholarship for my portfolio and artist statement. I also have a $3,000 art scholarship and a $17,000 ACT scholarship, both annually and for OKCU. I am still working on more scholarships.
What drives you to succeed?
My mom and dad. My mom is a prime example of how hard work pays off, and my dad always supported me in anything. They both planted a drive for success in me.
Who inspires you to excel in school and why?
My parents, Mrs. Benjamin, and my sisters. I want to show a good example to them and anyone else who's struggled in school.
What community activities are you involved in and what drives you to give back to the community?
I was in art club for three years and all the projects we did were community based. It feels so amazing finding and doing a community project that ties in with your skills and hobbies. It's a rewarding experience and I wish more people understood that.
What are your extracurricular activities and how do they improve your education?
Art club for the majority of my high school career and I have a part-time job. Art club helped me understand problem solving with art and pushed me to better myself as an artist to better help. My job really showed me what working is really like and taught me a lot of things they can't teach in school. They both pushed me to mature and developed my understanding of how important your education really is.
How would a new car help you achieve your future goals?
Well, a car is great overall but it would help me not only drive to school. But it would open a door of opportunities to go out and do more for the communities or go out to learn something new. A new access way to a lot more adventures and ways to better myself.
