Hartshorne

Renee Montgomery, left, is sworn in as city treasurer and Paul Marean takes his oath of office as Ward 1 councilor Monday during Hartshorne's regular council meeting.

HARTSHORNE — A new city councilor and treasurer were sworn in at Hartshorne.

Paul Marean took his oath as the Hartshorne Ward 1 city councilor and Renee Montgomery was sworn in as the city treasurer during Monday’s regular council meeting.

Marean was the sole candidate to file for the vacant Ward 1 city council seat in July.

The two-year unexpired term became vacant after previous Ward 1 councilor Joe Winslow moved outside the ward and had to give up the seat.

Marean previously ran for the office of District 17 state representative as a Republican candidate, but Hartshorne’s city elections are nonpartisan.

Montgomery was appointed Aug. 8 by city councilors as the city treasurer.

She was one of two applicants to fill a vacancy left July 17 and was appointed after a candidate who was originally appointed July 29 declined to take the seat.

Montgomery previously said she has been taking time to focus on helping take care of her parents and her grandson.
