Filings will continue through Wednesday for candidates for school board seats in 14 public school districts in Pittsburg County, including McAlester Public Schools.

The filing period for declarations of candidacy began Monday and extends from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Pittsburg County Election Board Secretary Tonya Barnes said the filing period ends Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m.

All candidate filings will be at the Pittsburg County Election Board office, 109 E. Carl Albert Pkwy. in McAlester.

If more than two candidates file in a given race, then the race will be on the ballot for the Feb. 11 Primary Election. 

The school board seats up for election will be on the ballot for the Board of Education Primary Election set for Feb. 11 if more than two candidates file for an office. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote during the Feb. 11 election, the race is set to be decided during the General Election set for  April 7, 2020.

If only two candidates file for a particular seat, then the position is set to be decided during the April 7 General Election.

Candidates may file for board of education offices in the following school districts until the 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline:

• McAlester School District — Office No. 5, five-year term

• Canadian School District — Office No. 5, five-year term

• Crowder School District — Office No. 5, five-year term

• Crowder School District — Office No. 3, unexpired term

• Frink Chambers School District — Office No. 1, three-year term

• Haileyville School District — Office No. 5, five-term

• Hartshorne School District — Office No. 5, five-year term

• Haywood School District — Office No. 1, three-year term

• Indianola School District — Office No. 5, five-year term

• Indianola School District — Office No. 3, unexpired term

• Kiowa School District — Office No. 5, five-year term

• Krebs School District — Office No. 1, three-year term

• Pittsburg School District— Office No. 5, five-year term

• Quinton School District — Office No. 5, five-year term

• Savanna School District — Office No. 5, five-year term

• Tannehill School District — Office No. 1, three-year term
