Education spotlight: Linda Hutchison

Tell us about your educational highlight, honor or accomplishment. What is it and how did you do it?

The highlight of my career is the relationships I am able to build and keep with my students AND my parents throughout the years. I always strive to make school a place where my students WANT to come and my parents are reassured that their children are in the best care, every single day. I am a very open and honest teacher and I create a safe space with my students.

Why is this accomplishment important for you?

Building relationships is how my students become successful. When they know that I truly care about them, they are willing to put in 100% effort. So many students need to be loved before they can be taught, and I want that to start with me. I want them to be able to unpack all the heavy burdens they carry and know that while they are in my care, they are wanted and loved.

How much did you have to work to accomplish this goal or honor?

It has definitely taken me a few years to soften and learn to build lasting relationships. I’ve learned how to love and dote on my students and build them up. I’ve learned how much my parents love to get a phone call home with great news and tell how well someone did on any given day. But now, it comes natural. Love them first, teach them second.

What plans do you have for the future?

I would love to continue my education journey and work towards my Master’s Degree as a Reading Specialist. Since Reading is the foundation to every other subject, it has always been a passion of mine to teach others how to make reading enjoyable.
