A department and clothing store in McAlester’s Tandy Town Shopping Center is expected to be converted to an off-price store in 2020.
Stage’s McAlester location will be converted into a Gordmans — an-off price retail store that offers name brand apparel, home decor, footwear, gifts, accessories and fragrances, similar to Stage’s merchandise, but at lower prices than department stores, according to a company representative.
“Shoppers are responding positively to Gordmans’ off-price concept, which means Gordmans has a wide array of popular brand name merchandise for the entire family at the lowest possible prices compared to department stores,” said Stage’s Manager of Brand Publicity Blakeley Graham.
Although a specific date for the conversion was not given, Graham said a majority of Stage stores across the nation will begin converting their nameplates to Gordmans beginning in early 2020.
Graham said Gordmans will bring fresh, new merchandise deliveries weekly and there will always be something new to discover when it comes to popular name brand apparel, home décor, footwear, gifts, accessories, fragrances and more for the entire family.
Shoppers with a Stage credit card, Style Circle Rewards or a Stage-brand gift card can continue to use the services at Gordmans, Graham said.
During the transition of the location to Gordmans, Graham said current associates will be offered jobs at Gordmans and that additional associates will be hired during job fairs, which will be announced at a later date.
According to information from Stage, the company acquired Gordmans after entering the off-price segment in 2017 and began testing conversions of department stores into Gordmans in 2018 and later announced this year their long-term strategy to convert department stores to Gordmans in small mid-western markers, with a goal of reaching 300 total off-price stores by mid-2020.
