McAlester voters overwhelmingly approved a city request for permission to refinance a portion of the McAlester Public Works Authority’s Utility System 2002 Revenue Bonds.

With all 17 precincts reporting, 173 voters approved of the measure while only 57 disapproved. The measure passed by a percentage of 75 percent.

The refinance amount is not to exceed $13 million. City Manager Pete Stasiak has said the city could save more than $900,000 on the interest payments alone, without extending the term of the debt.
