$5,000 reward offered after theft of copper wire

McALESTER — A $5,000 reward is being offered in connection with a theft of copper wire causing some $400,000 in damage and causing a Savanna asphalt company to shut down operations, police say.

Thousands of feet of copper wire were stolen from Glover and Associates, Inc. Asphalt Plant sometime between March 27 and April 2, according to Savanna Police Chief David Spears.

The plant is located by the Indian Nation Turnpike on the north end of Savanna.

“It’s the biggest theft of this kind I have ever seen,” Spears said.

He said the stolen copper wire was 2 1/2-inch and 3-inches diameter and was cut from different lines that run throughout the plant.

The theft has caused the plant to completely shut down, according to Spears. It was last open on April 2, he said.

“Until the wire is all replaced, they are completely shut down,” he said. “The company is estimating it will reopen in about 45 days.”

Meanwhile, a $5,000 reward is being offered by Glover and Associates for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the theft, according to Spears.

“We have some leads and we are working hard to find who did this,” he said. “I’m hoping someone will come forward and I think the reward will help.”

Anyone information about the case can call the Savanna Police Department at 918-429-2105 or 918-470-5250.
