Relay for Life Kick-Off party set for Feb. 20

McALESTER — The Relay for Life Kick-Off Party is set for 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 at St. Johns Parish Hall, organizers say.

The party is organized for those planing to participate in this year’s Relay for life, a fund raising event for the American Cancer Society, according to organizer Valerie Lalli.

Relay for Life is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk, according to relayforlife.org.

During the relay, teams of people camp out around a track while members of each team take turns walking around the track. Food, games, entertainment and other activities are also part of the event.

Lalli said the party is for anyone who might be interested.

“Anyone who is interested in having a team, being on a team or who has participated in events past is encouraged to come,” Lalli said.

“This is a come and go event to pick up information, team packets, team captain info and get hand-outs on important dates and times for meetings and other information.”

She said there will be snacks and plenty of people to help get those interested off to a great start and to answer questions.

“When it comes to fighting cancer there is no finish line until there is a cure,” Lalli said.

“We hope to see more businesses and health facilities involved this year.”
