Contract awarded for road improvements

McALESTER — A contract was awarded this month for road improvements in Pittsburg County, Sen. Richard Lerblance and Rep. Donnie Condit announced recently.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, the project will involve grading and resurfacing less than two miles of Crowder Blocker County Road, extending east from the causeway over Lake Eufaula two miles east of Crowder. Work will also include modifications of the drainage system.

Lerblance, D-Hartshorne, said the state transportation commission awarded a contract of more than $2 million to the Manhattan Road & Bridge Co. The Tulsa company was the lower of two bidders for the job, said Condit, D-McAlester.

Once construction begins, the project is estimated to be completed within seven months.
