COLLINSVILLE — Lacey McLain and Shattee Robinson both scored 12 points, leading the McAlester Lady Buffaloes past the 13th-ranked Bishop Kelley Comets, 46-39, in Thursday's regional semifinals at Collinsville High School.
McAlester faces Collsinville in the regional championship Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Collinsville. Both teams will automatically advance to next weekend's area tournament.
McAlester trailed by as many as 7 points in the first half, but Taylor Compton's steal led to a fastbreak layup that cut the Comets' lead to 25-24 early in the third quarter. Bishop Kelley still held a 1-point lead with 3:13 left in the third, but Robinson later grabbed an offensive rebound, drew a foul and sank two free throws to put McAlester up 29-28.
A give-and-go from Baylee Dawkins to April Calisto and back to Dawkins led to a layup and a 38-31 McAlester lead early in the fourth. The Comets pulled to within 3 points on a 3-pointer with 1:32 left in the game, but three free throws from Compton and McLain helped keep the Lady Buffs ahead until the buzzer sounded.
