Charges dismissed in Hartshorne robbery case

McALESTER — Charges were dismissed against three Hartshorne men charged in connection with an attempted robbery and assault with brass knuckles, court records state.

On Wednesday charges of first-degree burglary, and conspiracy to commit burglary were dismissed for Jaron Levi Adams, 28, of Hartshorne,

And charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree burglary, and conspiracy to commit burglary were also dismissed for James Wilburn Carter, 54, and Rodney McClendon, 49, both of Hartshorne.

The charges stem from alleged burglary of a home in Hartshorne reported in December, court records state.

A Hartshorne woman was reportedly assaulted with a pair of brass knuckles during the alleged attempted robbery, court records state.

According to a court affidavit, at 5:10 p.m. on Dec. 20, Hartshorne police responded to a possible domestic dispute in progress after an alarm was triggered inside the home.

A man alleged to have been living at the residence came out of the home and told police a female victim inside had been beaten by intruders who had entered the house without knocking, the affidavit states.

Records show the man led officers to the woman who stated she had been standing in the dining area when Carter allegedly knocked her to the ground and began choking her.

According to the affidavit, the woman told police that Adams stood over her and the male victim brandishing brass knuckles while both Adams and Carter demanded to know the location of a safe inside the home.

The woman also alleged that during the attack, McClendon stood near the alarm panel demanding it be shut off.

The male victim alleged in the affidavit that he told McClendon it was too late to turn off the alarm and police were already headed to the house.

The three men charged in the crime, allegedly left the home before police arrived.

District 18 District Attorney Farley Ward said the charges were dismissed because the states witnesses did not appear in court.
