Planning commission moves to rezone for hospital dialysis center

McALESTER — A rezoning request for a new dialysis center was approved by the McAlester Planning Commission on Tuesday.

The commission unanimously approved the request during a regular meeting of the commision in council chambers Tuesday night at McAlester City Hall.

A public hearing was placed on the agenda for “discussion on and action to rezone an area near McAlester Regional Health Center from Single-family Residential District to Health Facilities District.”

Leroy Alsup, the city’s new community and economic development director recommended that the commission approve the request.

He said the rezoning will allow the the hospital to build a new 25 station kidney dialysis center.

“We feel the rezone will be an asset to the community  and we recommend approval of the request to rezone,” Alsup said.

The property includes two lots at 1200 E. Monroe Avenue which is owned by The Jon M. and Debra S. McCauley Living Trust.

The lot size of the area to be developed is 52,335 square feet, according to the rezoning application filed with the city on Nov. 25.

The minimum square footage allowed for rezoning is 50,000 square feet, according to Alsup

“The development of the proposed Dialysis Center Project conforms to community’s vision of creating a robust, viable regional healthcare industry in the city of McAlester,” he said.

The following commission members were present at the meeting and voted for the rezoning; Karl Scrifes, Harvey Bollinger, Justin Few, Primus Moore; Commission Chairman, Mark Emmons, Karen Stobaugh, Ginny Webb and Ross Eaton.
