Power outage strikes McAlester area

McALESTER — A electrical power outage affected some 2,800 McAlester area residents for more than an hour on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Stan Whitford public information officer at AEP Public Service Company of Oklahoma said the power outage emanated from a substation on the south side of McAlester.

“One of the mobile substation worker tripped the power line,” Whitford said.

The outage happened at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, he said

“We contacted other servers and were able to have power restored for all our customers by 7:33,” Whitford said.

The outage was mostly concentrated on the south-side of McAlester and areas south of McAlester such as Savanna.
