Competitors needed from battle of the bands fundraiser

McALESTER — Local bands are needed for The Battle On The Grassy Knoll Battle of the Bands Competition on Friday at the McAlester Wal-MartSupercenter, organizers say.

“We are looking for 10 bands this year to get involved in Wal-Mart’s fundraiser for The Children’s Miracle Network,” organizer Scott Zachary said.

Each year Wal-Marts around the globe compete to see how much money they can raise for the month of May, according to Zachary.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. on the grassy area in front of Wal-Mart at 432 S. George Nigh Expy.

“We will a have a professional quality stage and sound system available,” Zachary said.

“Bring your band, your instruments, your talent and just plain bring it.”

The cost to enter is $75 per band, 20 percent of the entrance fee will be used for prize money and the rest will be donated to the Children’s Miracle Network, according to Zachary.

“We are hoping to have the biggest and ‘baddest’ event ever in McAlester history,” he said.

The evening will end with a dance sponsored by Holdenville band Wreckless Hiway.

“Your band might just be southeastern Oklahoma’s champion,” Zachary said.

“Get ready to rock the knoll.”

For more information, call Zachary at 918-820-2060, or email band contact information to battleontheknoll@gmail.com.
