Seven Pittsburg County schools receive state honors

OKLAHOMA CITY — Governor Mary Fallin, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi, Former Governor Brad Henry and State Legislators honored 186 school districts with the Governor’s ACE Award at a celebratory luncheon on March 3 at the Oklahoma History Center.

Among the honored were  Canadian Schools, Hartshorne Schools, Indianola Schools, Kiowa Schools, Pittsburg Schools, Savanna Schools, and Stuart Schools.

The Governor’s Ace Award is given to school districts in which 100 percent of the seniors of the Class of 2012 met all graduation requirements, including Achieving Classroom Excellence, also called. ACE, which was enacted in 2005 under Gov. Brad Henry, requires that high school seniors, beginning with the Class of 2012, prove proficiency on four of seven end-of-instruction exams before graduation.
