WOWOKA, Okla. — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a 19-year-old man was killed when the vehicle he was driving collided with a Sasakwa school bus.
Troopers say Shane Denton of Sasakwa died in the collision on Oklahoma 56 south of Wewoka about 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
The patrol says no students on the bus were injured.
Investigators say Denton was southbound when he crashed into the bus after swerving in an effort to avoid a car that was stopped behind the bus in the southbound lanes as students were unloading. Troopers say Denton hit the car then struck the bus broadside and was dead at the scene.
The patrol says there were 22 students ranging in age from 5 to 15 on the bus at the time — in addition to the driver.
