TULSA, Okla. —
Prosecutors have filed criminal charges against five employees of a Tulsa church who are accused of waiting more than two weeks before reporting the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl.
Prosecutors filed the charges Monday against the employees at Victory Christian Center. Authorities claim that a man sexually assaulted a girl in a stairwell on Aug. 13. The Tulsa World reports (http://is.gd/yP9AQ3 ) the girl reported the rape to church employees on Aug. 15, but police weren’t notified until Aug. 30.
The five were charged with failure to report child abuse.
The church said in a statement that the involved employees were a high school outreach program director, three youth pastors and a human resources employee. The church says it’s conducting an internal investigation and has suspended the employees.
