Inmate escapes JBCC — not OSP

McALESTER — An inmate from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center escaped from the McAlester minimum security facility Thursday morning.

Kenneth M. Hammick II, 27, was last seen at the correctional facility’s 6:30 a.m. count, according to JBCC Chief of Security Rick Caywood.

“He was discovered missing at our regularly scheduled 8:30 a.m. count,” Caywood said. “We did a special count to verify and it was confirmed at 9:26 a.m.”

Hammick is considered armed and dangerous, Caywood said. “When offenders escape, they are automatically considered armed and dangerous.” Caywood said officials at JBCC are working to find Hammick. “Escape recovery efforts are ongoing with the assistance from local law enforcement.” Caywood said JBCC’s search dogs are also out looking for Hammick.

Hammick is a white male with brown hair and hazel colored eyes. He is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 154 pounds. He has multiple tattoos, including the words “RIP” and “Bad Boys” tattooed on his neck. He also has three dots tattooed on his left hand middle finger. Hammick has “Linda” tattooed to both his left and right arms and on his left arm are tattoos of “K2” and a dragon.

Area residents received notification of the escape at approximately 10:45 a.m. The notification had incorrect information and stated an inmate had escaped from the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, a maximum security prison in McAlester. At around 11:15 a.m., a second notification was sent to area residents stating that Hammick did not escape from OSP and in fact, escaped from JBCC.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections website, Hammick is set for release Aug. 5, 2014. He has been in DOC custody since Aug. 2, 2011.
