The Norman Transcript
Oklahoma receivers coach Jay Norvell has kept his meeting room stocked with talented players. But even Norvell is adamant the key to the Sooners enjoying sustained offensive success revolves around their ability to run the ball.
"We need to be able to balanced — running and passing. We're best when we are that way," he said. "The games we've won and scored a lot of points in, we were balanced. We have to continue that."
Outside of the score, the easiest way to tell if the Sooners are playing well is their rushing total. They're averaging 6.05 yards per carry heading into Saturday's game with Iowa State.
However, in the losses to Kansas State and Notre Dame, OU averaged just 2.03 yards per tote and 52 rushing yards. In the wins over UTEP, Florida A&M, Texas Tech, Texas and Kansas, OU averaged 7.2 yards per carry and 253.8 rushing yards.
