Oklahoma pitching rotation for the Super Regional series at LSU will remain the same

McALESTER — Oklahoma coach Sunny Golloway said the pitching rotation for the Super Regional series at LSU will remain the same. Jonathan Gray will start Friday’s opener. Dillon Overton will take the mound in Game 2 Saturday, and Jake Fisher will take mound if there’s a final game Sunday.

Fisher (3-2) doesn’t have the profile of the first two in OU’s pitching rotation, but he has become a very reliable No. 3 pitcher over the last five weeks.

“He pitched really well against Oklahoma State. He beat Kansas State at home, which is going to a Super Regional, and pitched well against them in the semifinal of the Big 12 tournament and then beat Virginia Tech for the regional championship,” OU coach Sunny Golloway said. “I feel as good about him as I do the first two guys. Honestly, you try feel like if you can win one of the first two and get to Fisher is a good mentality for our club.”

Bring the noise: LSU’s Alex Box Stadium is the largest on-campus stadium in college baseball. The ballpark officially seats 10,150, but the Tigers have had crowds of over 12,000 before.

The Sooners haven’t been in Baton Rouge, La., since a 1997 NCAA tournament regional where it lost to the Tigers, 14-3.

OU players were barely old enough to hold a bat back then. They’re excited to get in that atmosphere.

“I’ve heard they could pack 13,000 plus in there,” OU catcher Anthony Hermelyn said. “What kinda player doesn’t want to play in front of that? It’s extra motivation for sure. It’s us against the world and we like it that way.”

‘Home’ shirts on sale: The blue shirts OU has been wearing since  the Big 12 tournament are now on sale. Featuring the same outline of the state of Oklahoma filled with the colors of the state flag and the words “HOME,” these limited-edition shirts will retail for $10.

The net proceeds from the sale of the shirts will benefit the United Way in the organization’s relief and recovery efforts throughout Oklahoma. The shirts will be available at the OU Bookstore, online at the OU Bookstore or by phone at (405) 325-3511.
