McAlester’s John Hall placed 2nd in world

By Porky Falcon
Sports Writer

McAlester’s own John Hall is not your average bow hunter. Some would call him Robin Hood or the Green Arrow. There is something different about Hall — He’s not a made up character, he’s the real deal, with a draw that will hit a quarter at 50 yards. His targets are not just deer in the woods. Hall is a world class qualifier in archery and just recieved second in the world.

Hall’s most recent tournament was the World Tournament, The Archery Shooters Association Classic, held in Columbus, GA.

Hall had to qualify in six ASA tournaments and reach a point criteria to even compete for the world title.

If pressure for the world title isn’t bad enough, Hall ran into some trouble 15 Minutes before his rotation. Someone dry fired Hall’s bow, causing it to blow up. Hall was forced to rely on his backup bow the resulted in him loosing some much needed points going into his final shoot.

“Hey, that’s all right,” Hall said. “I only ended up eight points back, from the World Champion.”

Hall was 18-points ahead of his opponents before the dry fire mishap and feels he could have held onto the lead after the his final round.

Hall has had four top 10 finishes this year starting with Gainesville, FL., placing second in the pro-am; moving on to Hainburg, MS., were he took first in this national tournament for semi-pro. He then took fourth in Paris, TX for semi pro, first overall in Augusta, GA., scoring overall high score on the range for the semi-pro and pro, scoring 432-points out of a possible 400, hitting some hard to reach bonus targets. His last tournament before the world was in London, KY., were he placed ninth.

Hall has an indoor lane above Rena and Roy’s Western Wear, where he instructs individuals on the bow’s safety and technique of shooting, Monday’s and Thursday’s, all ages from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
