Georgia is on the mind

WEDNESDAY | The medal day of the Junior Sunbelt Classic will take place Wednesday at Mike Deak Field with team playing one final game.

When someone says “Austin,” the state of Texas might come to mind. Not too many people would think of Georgia. Team Georgia defeated team Texas, 12-1 to become the only undefeated team in the Junior Sunbelt Classic.

Tuesday afternoon at Mike Deak Field “Austin” was on the field with Texas. No one thought that he would be the start of something big.

Austin Wheeler, from Park View High School was the lead off hitter in the bottom of the third inning for team Georgia. He was the cause of something big for team Georgia.

Wheeler started a hit-parade for team Georgia that brought in four runs in the top of the third inning. He was the first player to make a hit and the first RBI for team Georgia to cross the plate.

Team Georgia loaded the bases after Dale Carey was hit by a pitch with one out in the third inning.

Team Georgia's left fielder, Beau Way, hit a straight shot over team Texas' center fielder that brought in another run for Georgia that made the score, 4-0 after three innings.

Team Georgia rounded two more batters across home plate in the top of the fifth inning, with team Texas still scoreless. Team Texas got out of the top of the fifth inning with the score, 6-0.

Hunter Scott, belted one over center field for team Texas, that made the score 6-1.

Team Georgia's center fielder Dale Carey hit a three-run home run over left-center field wall. Three batters later, Wheeler sent a ball over the right field wall, that brought in two RBI’s for Georgia. Georgia was ahead 11-1, with two outs in the top of the seventh inning.

Team Georgia’s Christian Van Camp, went up to bat and hit a single-shot home run over the right field wall adding more trouble for team Texas.

Team Texas’ Head Coach O.J. Holcomb called into the bullpen to change pitchers. He brought out left-handed pitcher Mathew Locus. Locus was on the mound with two outs. He only threw one pitch before being taken out and replaced by Hunter Scott, who closed the inning for team Texas. The damage was done after team Georgia scored six runs off three home runs.

Team Georgia had a comfortable lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Georgia ended the game with a strikeout being the only undefeated team in the Junior Sunbelt Classic. Team Georgia was scheduled to play team Arizona today at 9 a.m. at Wilburton Eastern Oklahoma State College. Both teams have a chance at the first and second place game in the finals Wednesday.
