Georgia downs Texas, 11-2

After four and a half straight days of playing in the blistering heat, team Texas finally errored in the Junior Sunbelt Classic.
Texas, who went into Tuesday’s play with a 6-1 record showed that even the mighty get a little tired sometimes.
In all fairness, the loss had no impact on where Texas was to line up. They were guaranteed the chance to play for the championship, even if they hadn’t beaten Arizona 6-5 earlier that day. But a loss is a loss, no matter what the circumstances.
Georgia’s Brandon Cumpton was on the mound for team Georgia.
Texas started off with a run scored on an RBI single from centerfielder Paul Demny, but Cumpton struck out two straight batters, leaving three Texas runners stranded.
In the top of the second, Cumpton retired three straight on strikes, setting up an RBI single for Justice French in the bottom part of the inning. Georgia took the lead, after another run was walked in.
Texas committed three errors in the inning.
But it was in the bottom of the third when things imploded for Texas, as one of their coaches was ejected and Georgia scored six more runs, bringing their lead to an impressive 8-1.
During the inning, Charlie Culberson and Lyle Allen each had run scoring singles, while several batters reached base via the walk.
Texas’ only other run came in the top of the fourth, off of a solo homerun from Jason Martinson.
But Chris Kay was the game ender, as his single in the bottom of the fifth inning drove in the run that sealed the 11-2 run-rule win.
Georgia finished pool play with a 5-4 record and will play Arizona at 2 p.m. today for fifth place.
Texas finishes up with a 7-2 record and faces Tennessee tonight at 7:45.
Both games are at Mike Deak Field.
Oklahoma Gold 4, Oklahoma Blue 0
While the inner-state battle between Oklahoma Gold and Oklahoma Blue could never be described as bedlam, it is always one of the highlights of the tournament.
Oklahoma Gold pitcher Dean Green of Berryhill High School, pitched a shut-out in his team’s 4-0 victory. Edmond North’s Joe Goolsby started on the hill for the Blue
The scoring started in the top of the second inning when Daniel Simmons, Sapulpa, connected on a stand-up double. Eventually a throwing error scored a run, giving Gold the 1-0 early lead.
Green continued to set down batters on the mound, and added a run with an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning.
Brandon Smith, Norman North High School, connected on a solo shot that was dead-on over the 370-feet sign in centerfield, bringing the Gold lead to 3-0 heading into the seventh inning.
McAlester’s Kyle Williams drove in the final run of the contest with a single in the seventh, helping bring about the final 4-0 lead.
Oklahoma Blue plays today at 3 p.m. in Hartshorne for seventh place against Mississippi. Oklahoma Gold will play for third place at 5 p.m. at Mike Deak Field.
