It was a change of weather for the Talihina Golden Tigers and the Savanna Bulldogs, Friday afternoon at the Crowder Ballpark, for the Class 2A District Title.
The Golden Tigers shined through the bite of the Bulldogs, winning the District Championship 14-8.
The Tigers jumped off to 3-0 lead in the first inning and held the Dawgs until the bottom of the fourth inning.
Another three runs came in for the Tigers in the top of the fourth inning, that brought the score to 6-1. The Bulldogs answered back with three runs of there own in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Dawgs scored three runs of their own.
The Dawgs couldn’t find the pitching to hold off the Tigers — allowing three more runs to score in the top of the sixth inning.
At the end of, the top of the seventh inning, the Tigers had five more runs that came in to score. That brought the score to 14-3.
The Dawgs were pressured to play catch-up to the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Dawgs walked a good number of batters and the Tigers took advantage of there pitching.
“ We were able to capitalize on that,” said the Tigers head coach Jon Bradberry. “They’d walk a few and we’d get a base hit and score a few runs.”
The Dawgs tried to rally back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring five more runs, ending the game 14-8.
“I think my players got a little ‘big-eyed’ a little bit,” said Bradberry. “We were that close to winning and they let them (Dawgs) get five runs. Everything worked out good”
The Golden Tigers are set to play in the Regional Tournament, which is still to be determined. Look to the McAlester News-Capital for more information.
