The McAlester Buffaloes defeated the Muskogee Roughers 9-3 on Senior Night at Mike Deak Field.
The Buffs record improved to 23-7 on the season.
“This was actually a pretty close game. Muskogee took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and then we battled back,” McAlester head coach Jackie Cumbie said.
“We tied it back up at two and after the fourth inning we led 4-2. During the later innings we were able to open the game up.”
McAlester stand out pitcher Anthony Trevino got the call on the mound for the Buffs.
“Trevino went the distance for us during the game. The win improves his record to 8-2.” Cumbie said.
McAlester seniors honored after their win were: Tyler Akins, Chad Barnett, Colton Cumbie, Chase Dickerson, Cameron Green, Justin Klusak, Giovanni Lovera, Michael McDonald, Ethan Miller and Anthony Trevino.
MHS Diamond Dolls seniors honored were: Blair Brock, Tabatha Hill, Akisha Keval, Kati McCauley and Kimberely Waldrop.
The Buffs are scheduled to play Shawnee Friday at Shawnee.
The Buffs game that was scheduled against Poteau Saturday at Mike Deak Field has been cancelled due to district play by Poteau.
“We are still searching for an opponent to play on Saturday. It’s not looking good that we are going to find anybody to play. Everybody in the smaller schools is in district play and the 5A schools are already scheduled to play. The game has to be a home night because the McAlester High School prom is that night,” Cumbie said.
The Buffs will host 5A Regional games beginning April 30- May 2, at Mike Deak Field.
The Buffs will play Tulsa Will Rogers at 1:30 p.m.
Tulsa Hale will play Pryor at 4 p.m. and the two losers will play at 6:30 p.m.
“The games were scheduled to begin Thursday, but due to weather, we are all in agreement to move the start time to Wednesday, so instead of using Sunday as a ‘rain day’ we will use Saturday,” Cumbie said.
