The McAlester Buffaloes baseball team is on a roll and made it look easy as they run- ruled the Shawnee Wolves Friday at Mike Deak Field.
It’s the second straight game in the past two days that the Buffs have run-ruled their opponent.
The Buffs beat longtime rival Ada Thursday 12-2, and they beat Shawnee Friday 11-0.
McAlester’s Justin Klusak got the nod from head coach Jackie Cumbie and took the mound in the Shawnee game.
Klusak pitched all five innings and held the Wolves scoreless.
Cameron Green hit a single for the Buffs that scored Klusak and Anthony Trevino. The Wolves centerfielder failed to control the ball and with the triple error, Green rounded the bases.
In the bottom of the second Colton Cumbie hit a single to score Gio Lovera for the Buffs. Cumbie stole second and scored on a Chad Barnett double.
Klusak hit a single to score Barnett as the inning closed, with the Buffs leading 6-0.
In the top of the third, Klusak struck out two of the first three Shawnee batters. The Buffs covered a pop-up, to end the inning for the Wolves.
Klusak pitched himself out of trouble in the top of the fourth, as the bases were loaded with two outs. Klusak kept his composure and smoothly struck out the Shawnee batter to save the inning for the Buffs.
The bottom of the fourth was a Buffs hitting frenzy.
The Shawnee coach changed pitchers in an effort to stop the Buffs’ onslaught — but it didn’t matter.
Lovera would reach first on a hard hit single. Barnett would reach advancing Lovera. Klusak hit a rip between fielders for a two RBI stand-up triple.
Trevino would blast one over the wall for a home run that would score Klusak.
Shawnee failed to score in the fifth and the game was called.
The Buffs will travel to Phoenix, Az. to play over spring break. They will also compete in the Pryor tournament, March 26-29.
