Kyle Hammons, a senior at Savanna High School, has been selected as the 2008 McAlester News Capital’s All Area Boy’s Player of the Year.

Hammons was a ferocious rebounder this season for the Bulldogs. He averaged 15 points per game and had an amazing 225 rebounds on the season. He was also a force to reckoned with under the glass with 59 blocked shots this year.

Hammons was selected as the 2008 Pitt 8 Conference Player of the Year and has been selected to the Kiamichi All-star Team.

“Kyle has the abilities — coachability, dependability, responsibility, reliability and athletic ability,” Savanna’s head basketball coach Brian Brown said.

“He also excels in academics.”

Hammons plans after graduation are to go to college pursue a degree and become a computer technician —and maybe play basketball.

“I am very excited to be selected for this honor,” said Hammons. “I would like to thank my coach for keeping me determined and motivated, and keeping me going this year.”

Hammons said he is looking forward to playing in the Kiamichi All Star game that is scheduled to be played in May at Eastern Oklahoma State College.
