The McAlester Buffaloes were handed their worst loss of the season Friday when the Bixby Spartans took a 47-12 win from the Buffs.

It was all Bixby for three quarters of play. The Spartans went on top 14-0 after the first quarter and were up 23-0 by halftime.

The Buffs had a hard time moving the ball in the first half with only 68 yards of total offense. Bixby ran up 134 rushing yards and 113 passing yards in the first half to take a three-touchdown lead.

McAlester threatened the endzone on their first drive of the second half. Deon Hall ran the ball four times in the first five plays of the second half to reach 100 yards for the game.

The Buffs made it all the way to the Bixby 11 yard line before having their best scoring opportunity of the night, a field-goal attempt under 30 yards, blocked by the Spartans. Bixby picked up the blocked kick and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown and made the score 30-0 with 8:30 remaining in the third quarter.

The Spartans led 37-0 after three quarters. McAlester won the fourth quarter 12-10 but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early hole they dug in the first three periods of play.

The Buffs ended up with 250 total yards to Bixby’s 390. McAlester turned the ball over twice, while the Spartans had no turnovers.

Hall finished the game with 158 yards and quarterback Justin Klusak passed for 91.

The Buffs dropped to 2-7 overall, 2-4 in district play, and will finish the season at home Friday against the Tulsa Edison Eagles. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
